Building a Connected and Vibrant Community

Commissioner McCarty’s pride and passion lies in building a strong, connected community. Since day one, Steven has been a connector of residents and businesses, by facilitating communications to foster a sense of unity and collaboration within our neighborhood.

Community Events and Engagement

In the summer of 2023, Commissioner McCarty hosted Blagden Alley Community Day, successfully activating multiple businesses and attracting over 100 residents to connect with MPD, learn about our public safety committee, and engage with their community. He also hosted the first-ever Blagden Alley Pride in 2023, celebrating diversity and inclusion. Steven has been delighted to participate in other local events, such as the 2024 DC AlleyFest, and is excited to continue his deep involvement with residents and neighbors in the next term.

Collaborations and Initiatives

Steven is currently working on a collaboration between local historians and Events DC to host local history tours, highlighting the incredible history of our alley-dwelling communities in Blagden Alley and Naylor Court. He has actively participated in local cleanups and hopes to partner with the Friends of 10th St. Park and other community organizations for future cleanups.

Reimagining Public Spaces

Commissioner McCarty has partnered with Alley Living Together and other neighbors to begin reimagining Blagden Alley as a fun, safe, and exciting place for all. This includes exploring new mural spaces, business opportunities, and ways to better activate the public space that we all know and love.

Through his dedicated efforts, Commissioner McCarty is committed to building a connected and vibrant community. His proactive approach and strong partnerships with residents, businesses, and community organizations continue to create a more unified and dynamic neighborhood.
