How to Vote in DC
This election cycle, residents of DC have multiple options to cast their ballots. Read below for details on how to vote by mail, use a ballot dropbox, vote in-person early, or on Election Day. Make your plan to vote today!
Mail in Voting
If you prefer to vote by mail, you can request a mail-in ballot through the DC Board of Elections website. Once you’ve filled out your ballot, be sure to:
- Complete your mail-in ballot and place it in the return envelope provided.
- Sign the envelope as instructed.
- Drop your ballot in any mail collection box or take it directly to a USPS location.
IMPORTANT: Mailed ballots must be postmarked by Election Day (Tuesday, November 5) and received at the Board of Elections (BOE) no later than the 10th day after Election Day. We recommend that you vote and mail your ballot as soon as possible to ensure it arrives on time.
Alternatively, you can use one of the Ballot Drop Boxes, which are detailed below.
Ballot Drop Box
Ballot Drop Boxes provide a secure way to return your completed mail-in ballot. You may drop off your voted ballot at any dropbox location starting Friday, October 11, up until 8:00pm on Election Day, Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

In-Person Early Voting
If you prefer to vote in person before Election Day, you can visit an Early Vote Center from Monday, October 28 through Sunday, November 3. Centers are open from 8:30 am to 7:00pm.

Election Day
On Election Day, Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in-person voting centers will be open from 7:00 am to 8:00 pm. Make sure to bring valid identification, especially if it’s your first time voting in DC.
